The Aerospace Corporation Announces Changes to Board

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Dec. 17, 2012) – Aerospace board member and former ambassador Barbara M. Barrett has been elected vice chair of the board effective Dec. 14, 2012.

Barrett was the U.S. Ambassador to Finland from 2008 to 2009. Barrett is an international business and aviation attorney, and president and CEO of Triple Creek Guest Ranch. In 2012 she served as the interim president-designate of Thunderbird School of Global Management. In addition to Aerospace she serves on the boards of the RAND Corporation and the Space Foundation, among others. Barrett previously held a number of positions, including senior advisor to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, CEO of the American Management Association, deputy administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration and vice chairman of the U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board. She has trained as an astronaut and was the backup spaceflight participant for the Soyuz TMA-16 flight to the International Space Station.

Gen. Thomas S. Moorman Jr., USAF Ret., has retired as the board’s vice chair effective Dec. 14. He began his board service in December 1998 and was elected vice chairman in December 2008, a position he held until his retirement.

Moorman is a senior executive advisor for the consulting firm of Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean, Virginia. He retired as Air Force vice chief of staff in 1997 after a distinguished 35-year career in the United States Air Force. Prior to becoming vice chief of staff he was commander and vice commander of Air Force Space Command, where he was responsible for operating military space systems, ground-based radars, and missile warning satellites; the nation’s space launch centers at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, and Vandenberg Air Force Base, California; and the worldwide network of space surveillance radars.
