William Tosney, Andrew Quintero Win Space Testing Award

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (3/2/98) -- The first Otto Hamberg Best Paper Award for contributions to space testing has been presented to William Tosney and Andrew Quintero, members of the technical staff in the Environmental Tests and Ordnance Department.

They received the award in December for a paper presented at the 17th Annual Aerospace Testing Seminar, a meeting which draws representatives of the space testing community from throughout the world.

The winning paper, one of 48 presented at the seminar, was titled "Orbital Experience from an Integration and Test Perspective." The gathering has been held every 18 months since 1973.

The seminar's planning and advisory board selected the Tosney-Quintero paper for its "broad application and major contributions to the space testing industry."

The award is named for the late Otto Hamberg, a former Aerospace section manager in the Environmental Tests and Ordnance Department who served on the seminar planning board for many years.

The board established the award to recognize Hamberg's contributions in establishing the need for and importance of systems engineering on-orbit information for use in ground test effectiveness studies.
