Employees Become Teachers for a Day
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (7/18/99) -- Twelve employees of The Aerospace Corporation spent a morning teaching second- and third-grade students at Center Street Elementary School in El Segundo as part of Junior Achievement of Southern California's "Spirit Day" June 21 and 23.
The volunteers led students through a specially tailored curriculum designed to teach the children about their roles and the roles of their families in the economic community.
A wide range of community dynamics was explored, including how residents work together and exchange services, how institutions relate, and how community plans are developed and implemented.
By using their careers as examples, the employees were able to show the students how education applies in the workplace and the importance of staying in school.
The volunteers were Lynn Choi, Kenneth Conner, Dr. James DiLellio, Cecile Ferguson, James Gadioma, Jill Greb, Tammy Morehart, Michael Papadopoulos, John Skratt, Brandon Thrasher, Dahne Underhill and Carol Wilbanks.
