Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. George K. Muellner Elected to Board of The Aerospace Corporation
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2011) – George K. Muellner, a retired lieutenant general in the U.S. Air Force, was elected to a three-year term during The Aerospace Corporation’s September board meeting in El Segundo, Calif.
Muellner retired as president of Advanced Systems for Boeing’s Integrated Defense Systems business unit in 2008. In this position he was responsible for developing advanced concepts and technologies and executing new programs prior to their reaching the system design and development phase.
From 2002 until 2008, Muellner served as senior vice president-general manager of Boeing’s Air Force Systems, in charge of all domestic and international Air Force programs. Prior to that Muellner was president of Phantom Works, Boeing’s advanced research and development unit.
Muellner retired from the Air Force in 1998 after 31 years of distinguished service. He held many important posts during his Air Force career, including principal deputy for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition in Washington, DC, director and program executive officer for the Joint Advanced Strike Technology program (now the Joint Strike Fighter program), and deputy chief of staff for requirements for the Headquarters Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base, Va.
Prior to this, Muellner served as a fighter pilot and fighter weapons instructor, test pilot, and commander. He flew combat missions in Vietnam and commanded the Joint STARS deployment during Operation Desert Storm. He has been highly decorated for his service.
Muellner holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Illinois. He also holds a master’s degree in aeronautical systems management from the University of Southern California; a master’s degree in engineering from California State University, Fresno; and a master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University.
