Synthesis of perovskite nanoparticles.

Aerospace, in collaboration with the Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies at UC Santa Barbara and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, has been investigating biologically inspired methods for creating and tailoring high-purity nanocrystalline materials under benign conditions for application in advanced infrared sensors. The new approaches permit the synthesis of exceptionally small perovskite nano¬≠particles, which can be functionalized and dispersed to form high-quality, mechanically robust thin films (such as barium titanate, shown here) on prefabricated infrared sensor electronics.  More »
